— DAY 8 —

Badlands, south dakota

DAY 8, in which Little Buddy discovers a thriving oasis in an unexpected place.

We packed up early the next day and headed toward Wyoming. Bummed by missing a day, we discussed what to do next. Craig's calendar notified us we needed to keep moving to stay on schedule. After an hour on the road we decided to touch base with a friend who offered to host us when we made it to Yellowstone.

She was happy to hear from us, and excited to see us because we were arriving a day earlier than planned.

We pulled the car over.

Then jumped out of the car, had a quiet moment, yelled exuberantly at the surrounding farmland, jumped back in the car, turned around, and headed back for Interior.

After looking at the calendar, the notification we got was set to notify us a day early, so we'd be able to plan.

We visited two spots that looked promising the day before, took reference pictures and went back to the motel.
Craig got some much needed rest, and Mike went to town creating the assets needed for two nights worth of projections.

The plan was to make both day's worth of projections during the day, setup with 30 minutes before sundown, film, head to the second location, set up, film, and be finished by midnight.

While scoping out locations in The Badlands, we encountered some of its inhabitants.

Sundown.

Sundown.

As planned, and well rested, we got to work.

We finished each projection with time to spare, to the quality we were hoping for, and had enough time left for a good night's rest.

We were back on track. and it felt great.

Thoughts about the choices we make, and how they affect the trajectories of our lives.

Finding oases in unexpected places.
